Biblical Foundation - LEVEL I

Course content

This course was developed for individuals who are interested in having a strong, structured, biblical foundation.  We will have a detailed look at foundational principles that all candidates will need to proceed into the area of Biblical Studies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge:

The Candidate


  • have an understanding of the difference between oral tradition verses written tradition
  • has a strong history of the Bible from the Septuagint to the Canon throughout history
  • has an understanding of the Formal, Intermediate and Paraphrased Translation and makes recommendations to users.


Skills:

The Candidate

  • Will be able to choose the different types of translation based on an informed position

History of Orality

  • The student is introduced to oral tradition which superseded the written text.

History of the Bible

  • The student will be introduced to the History of the Canon

History of Translations

  • The student will be able to focus on the different biblical translations.

biblical hermeneutics - LEVEL II

Course content

This course focuses on understanding the study of Biblical Interpretation to understand what the author of the time wanted to express to his intended audience and how it applies to persons currently.   The course also focuses on the history of the Interpretation of the text from the Medieval Times to the present day and issues that surround the interpretation of the various forms of translations. 

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge:

The candidate

  • know how interpretation works and how to interpret the Bible
  • has an understanding of the interpretation over the eras
  • has a strong understanding of the approaches to interpretation
  • has a strong understanding of the challenges facing interpretation

Skill:

The candidate

  • can start to use a proper exegetical approach to the text
  • identify the different eras and their interpretation
  • will easily identify the challenges facing biblical interpretation

Basic Hermeneutics

  • The student will be taught the basics of hermeneutics

History of Interpretation

  • The history of hermeneutics within different eras

Methods of Hermeneutics

  • The student will be introduced to three main methods of hermeneutics

Challenges of Biblical Interpretation

  •  The student will be able to understand issues surrounding biblical interpretation.
